Trust welcomes two new Non-Executive Directors

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has appointed two new Non-Executive Directors to its Board with Claudette Elliott and Neil Fletcher taking up their roles this month.

Claudette is a highly respected public sector senior manager with over 40 years’ experience in health and social care.

After starting her career as a nurse, she qualified as a social worker and became the Assistant Director for older people’s services at Manchester City Council.

Claudette returned to the NHS as the Associate Director for Access and Inclusion at Central and Manchester PCT and spent 4 years as the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Officer at South Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group. She has also served as programme director in the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System.

She is currently the Deputy Chair and Non-Executive Director at Pennine Care Foundation Trust and a Non-Executive Director at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Claudette said: “I’m so looking forward to taking up this role and using my experience across the health and care sector to support the care of patients.

“I am really interested in neighbourhood working and I feel MWL is in a great position here because of the services it delivers across primary, secondary and community care. I hope I can bring my experience of working in local government and the NHS to the fore.’’

Neil has over 35 years’ experience working in the NHS.

With a background as a pharmacist Neil has held several senior leadership roles at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust including Chief Pharmacist and Divisional Director of Operations for Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services, prior to his recent retirement.

He said: “MWL has a fantastic reputation, and I have always read so many positive stories about the organisation and the people who work here.

“I am really looking forward to taking on the role and using my experience in the NHS to help this outstanding Trust support its patients and deliver its 5 Star Patient Care ambition.’’
Trust Chairman, Richard Fraser,  said: “We are delighted to welcome Claudette and Neil to the Trust.

“They have a wealth of hugely valuable experience and expertise in improving care and outcomes for patients and will strengthen our Board. They will no doubt help to ensure that we continue to provide excellent care for our patients and local communities as well as be a great place to work for our staff.”
