Royal recognition for MWL consultant at The King’s Garden Party

A consultant surgeon from Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has attended The King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the NHS.

Miss Leena Chagla, Consultant Surgeon and Lead Clinician for Breast Services, was selected by NHS England to represent the NHS at the prestigious event, honouring her long and dedicated career.

Miss Chagla said she was “touched and humbled” to be nominated by the Trust, adding that simply being put forward was an honour in itself.

“Receiving confirmation that I had been selected to attend Buckingham Palace was a wonderful surprise,” she said. “It was a very special moment to share with my team and my family.”

Miss Chagla attended the event on 6 May with her husband, Dr Manoj Agarwal, enjoying an afternoon in the Palace gardens alongside guests from across the country. She also had the opportunity to see members of the Royal Family, including The King, Queen Camilla and The Princess Royal.

“It was a fantastic celebration and a day I will always remember,” she said. “I am truly grateful to the Trust and NHS England for the opportunity to represent the NHS in this way.”

Rob Cooper, Chief Executive of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

“It was a real pleasure to see Miss Chagla invited to attend The King’s Garden Party in recognition of her long and outstanding career in the NHS.

“This is a very well-deserved honour, reflecting the dedication, professionalism and care she has shown throughout her career. Over many years, she has made a real difference to the lives of patients and colleagues, and it is wonderful to see her contribution recognised in this way.”

Miss Chagla has been a valued member of the Trust for many years and is widely respected for her leadership of breast services and commitment to patient care.
